- LIKE A MOTH TO THE FLAME, the solo debut EP from Gary Smejkal, features three new original compositions written for the bass. In further exploring the bass as a solo instrument, Smejkal contrasts driving hard rock rhythms with unexpected interludes and fusionist stylings.
The new band Carbon Based Life Forms founded by Smejkal and Rampage Trio drummer Kevin Crowley brings into the studio an impressive roster of musicians including Rob Austin on guitar, Kevin Federico on piano and keyboards, Adam Trull on trumpet, and Christa Centola on vocals.
Described as "ethereal, jazzy and sexy" in recent review, the title track soared to No. 1 on the Alternative Music charts on Lowell Rocks, where it has remained ever since. Smejkal has been the Featured Artist in the Lowell Sun, HIPPO, and Encore magazines and recently appeared for a live studio interview on The Underground Show on WSCA 106.1 FM where the new music is receiving regular airplay.
Gary Smejkal is currently back in the studio with Christa Centola (Cheshire Cat, Blended), Kevin Crowley (Rampage Trio), and Ed Antonelli (The Mystics) to work on "Second Bass", the new CD due out this summer. Some surprise collaborations are expected.
