Wild River Film

Wed. evening I drove down to Lowell to join my friends at the living space above Gallery 119 to watch a film. Elia Kazan's "Wild River" dates back to 1960 and stars Montgomery Clift and Lee Remick. Bruce Dern debuted as a member of a mob and James Earl Jones' father (you can easily see the resemblance) also had a small but significant role as the loyal field worker.

Clift plays a TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) agent who has to talk a woman off her river island home.

Tennis and Karaoke

Monday evening was our usual tennis night, although it was cold and windy. Four of us showed up, although Lynne M. left after she took a nasty tumble trying to reach a ball right after we started. So we proceeded to do our 3-way match. We were out there for 3 full hours and played 3 matches. I won the first, Steve won the second, and I won the third, after having played miserably in the 2nd.

Tuesday evening was part 2 of the Encore Karaoke competition, this time at Boston Billiards in Nashua, o… Continue

Dancing and Harvard Museums

On Friday I headed to Princeton Station in North Chelmsford for dancing. Sandy K. had posted the event on the Merrimack Valley Single Friends meetup group's calendar. We didn't get as big a turnout as we had when the band was Four On The Floor, but people enjoyed the Rock City Band and were out on the dance floor most of the evening, although there was a lag at the beginning before anyone started dancing. The rain might have also cut down on the turnout. The band played "Mustang Sally", but we m… Continue

Metrowest Boogie

DJ Alkemi was at an out of town gig this week but Andrew Duncan volunteered to dj and found someone to lend him the sound equipment for the night. When I arrived at the Parish Center for the Arts in Westford a little before 7 PM, Andrew and his artist friend Calvin were sitting on the front steps with the equipment waiting for a dance class in the main hall to finish. We've seen the classes in a back hallway or upstairs before, but never in the main hall.

When we finally got inside we had to se… Continue

Play-Reading

On Wed. I attended Amy Friedman's play-reading group at Hudson's (Hills) public library. We read Oscar Wilde's "Ideal Husband". At first there were only 3 of us, but 2 more people arrived before we started. We still needed to hand out multiple roles per person.

At first I only got 3 minor roles: Montford, James the footman, and the Earl of Caversham. The first 2 had only a couple of lines. Caversham's lines were widely separated throughout. Luckily for me, Amy's voice was giving out on her and… Continue
